The Bermuda Perfumery was founded in 1928 and was located in Bailey’s Bay. In 2004, the operation moved to Stewart Hall in St. George’s. The driving force behind the revitalized perfumery is its perfumer, Isabelle Brackstone. Isabelle’s passion and creativity has put The Bermuda Perfumery on the map once more with new perfumes & bath products. Please tell us what one can experience while visiting your historic shop in St. George’s? We are indeed passionate about our perfumes and our mission is to share this passion with our visitors. We offer a free 10-minute tour of our operations so visitors can learn how perfumers work and how we formulate and make our perfumes. We have also just opened an exhibit in our History Room on the Sense of Smell where our visitors are invited to learn about how we smell and about how we build perfumes. Of course, this learning experience then leads to the discovery of our original perfume collection: Coral, Pink, Somers, Fresh Water and many others. Bermuda is paradise for a perfumer and my collection gives homage to the beauty of our Island. New to Lili Bermuda are fragrances for men. 32ºN & 64ºW were the first fragrances for men that you launched in 2008. Today, you have a total of eight men’s fragrances. What was the process that you went through when creating this first for the Bermuda Perfumery? We always made fragrances for men. I do not know how to answer this question. Let’s talk about it if you want. What’s the point in including this???? July 2010, The Bermuda Perfumery opened a fragrance counter on Front Street in the brand new AS Cooper’s building. Now, locals & visitors can experience the scents of Lili Bermuda in the City of Hamilton. How did this relationship came about with AS Cooper’s & Lili Bermuda? Also, what can we expect in the future? There is no doubt that our fragrances are the most popular fragrances sold on the Island. AS Cooper’s new store is modern and elegant, in-line with the image of Lili Bermuda. It was a natural partner for us to open a full-service counter to sell our perfumes in Hamilton. The management of AS Cooper has been very supportive and has shared my vision since I joined the Perfumery in 2004. At AS Cooper, Ms. Elizabeth Martel is our Perfume Consultant for Lili Bermuda and she has been fully trained in St. George’s by our own Perfume Specialists.
Please elaborate for our readers on how to choose the right fragrance for a gift? My best advice is to get something that is in-line with the personality of the person you buy the fragrance for. Coral is floral fruity, feminine but modern, whereas Petals is elegant and very floral. South Water, unisex, is exotic and flirty. For men, 32° North is for the adventurer, whereas 64° West is for the businessman. Somers is very Bermudian, sexy and warm. Experiment with your scents, the way you would experiment with fashion. The right fragrance is the one that makes you feel beautiful. |
